General Instructional StrategiesLatin is inherently challenging for native English speakers and writers (no direct background knowledge in most cases, very detailed and historically broad), therefore to ensure the opportunity for success for every LCP scholar, Ms. Rascoe places a large grading emphasis on EFFORT AND PERSISTENCE. In practicing Latin language skills, LCP scholars will provide written English translations, parse (identify various grammatical features) and practice pronouncing written Latin text aloud. Scholars are expected to review notes in Latin notebooks for at least 15 minutes each evening. LCP Latin scholars will also complete projects during the semester, highlighting selected topics in Roman history and culture. Speaking Latin in greeting, transitional cues and instructional activities is also a core element in Rascoe's Latin class, engaging students in continual curiosity and growing fluency in utilizing the Latin language. |
